The answer is slightly more complicated than simply saying yes or no. Autodesk has changed how its web access is offered over time. The former AutoCAD Web App Program that provided broad free access to editing tools ended on August 8, 2022. Today, access depends on whether you are using the limited free capabilities, a trial, an educational entitlement, or a paid AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT or AutoCAD Web subscription.

Therefore, understanding exactly what AutoCAD Web Free means is important before deciding whether it is suitable for your drafting needs.

What Is AutoCAD Web Free?

AutoCAD Web Free is commonly used to describe the ability to access AutoCAD’s web-based drafting environment without purchasing the full desktop version of AutoCAD.

The term “AutoCAD Web Free” can be misleading because Autodesk’s current offering is not the same as the former free Web App Program.

According to Autodesk’s current documentation, users can continue with limited free access that provides viewing and measuring capabilities, while full editing capabilities are available through an AutoCAD Web subscription, an AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT subscription, or an applicable trial.

What About the Old Free AutoCAD Web App?

You may still find older articles online claiming that users can access the complete AutoCAD web app for free.

Those articles may be referring to the AutoCAD Web App Program, which Autodesk launched in 2020. That program allowed users to access the web app’s tools without charge. However, Autodesk ended the program on August 8, 2022.
