DRONE APPLICATION IN AERIAL SURVEY AND MAPPING: HOW GEOINFOTECH ENHANCED AGRICULTURAL SITE PLANNING IN OSEFA THROUGH GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY
Geoinfotech conducted a high-precision Drone Application in Aerial Survey and Mapping project for agricultural site planning in Osefa, Oyo State, Nigeria, to support precision agriculture, land-use management, and sustainable development. The project, executed in March 2026, involved UAV aerial surveying, terrain analysis, watershed assessment, and the generation of accurate geospatial datasets for effective agricultural and environmental planning.
The survey commenced with reconnaissance activities and project planning to establish survey controls and optimize aerial data acquisition across the study area. Using drone technology, GNSS equipment, and GIS methodologies, high-resolution aerial imagery and precise coordinate datasets were acquired to ensure accurate terrain mapping and spatial analysis of the agricultural environment.
The captured datasets were processed using advanced photogrammetric and GIS software to generate orthophotos, Digital Elevation Models (DEM), watershed analysis maps, contour maps, slope models, flow accumulation datasets, and drainage analysis outputs. These deliverables provided detailed insights into terrain morphology, hydrological characteristics, and land suitability required for agricultural development and environmental management.
Field operations included drone deployment, GNSS control establishment, aerial data acquisition, and site validation, while office-based activities focused on spatial analysis, hydrological modelling, cartographic production, terrain interpretation, and quality assurance. Deliverables included orthophotos, watershed datasets, contour maps, drainage models, elevation datasets, and comprehensive technical reports for agricultural planning and development purposes.
By integrating drone surveying and modern geospatial methodologies, the project significantly improved the speed, precision, and reliability of agricultural terrain mapping compared to conventional survey techniques, reducing planning uncertainties and supporting informed decision-making for sustainable land management.
This project has enabled stakeholders to better understand the topographic and environmental characteristics of the Osefa agricultural environment, supporting improved crop management, drainage assessment, land-use allocation, and agricultural infrastructure planning. Geoinfotech continues to provide innovative geospatial solutions that enhance agricultural productivity, environmental sustainability, and data-driven development planning.
For future agricultural development initiatives, regular drone-based terrain monitoring and watershed analysis are recommended to maintain updated geospatial information, improve environmental management, and support long-term sustainable agricultural planning and operational efficiency.
Looking Forward: Advancing Precision Agriculture Through Geospatial Innovation
The successful implementation of UAV-based aerial surveying and mapping in Osefa demonstrates how advanced geospatial technologies are transforming precision agriculture and environmental management. As agricultural demands continue to increase and environmental challenges become more complex, accurate spatial intelligence and terrain analysis are becoming essential tools for sustainable agricultural development and effective resource utilization.
Geoinfotech remains committed to delivering advanced surveying and mapping solutions that empower agricultural stakeholders to make informed decisions with confidence. Through the integration of drone technology, GIS analysis, hydrological modelling, and precision surveying, organizations and land managers can improve planning accuracy, optimize resource allocation, reduce operational risks, and transform geospatial intelligence into a strategic advantage for sustainable agricultural growth and development.
