The hashtag #EndSARS first surfaced in 2017 as activists in Nigeria sought to abolish a federal police unit called the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
SARS, as it is commonly known, has existed for nearly three decades.
But over time, its critics say, the unit has developed a reputation for abusing its power.
In the past two weeks ( beginning from October 6 2020), Nigerians began flooding the streets to protest against a police unit widely viewed as abusive and inhumane.
