The fact that stealing appears to be on the rise throughout the country is no more news. And recently, Ifeanyi Okezie, aka Kelz, a Lagos-based videographer and OAP, has spoken up about his adventure with a thief and how he was able to fix the situation using a drone gadget.
On his recount to TOBI AWORINDE, he stated how he always went around with his drone. And on that faithful day, he was on transit with his supposed friend from a location. During our trip, my friend wanted to use a nearby bathroom and I needed to purchase something, so he parked the car across the street from the supermarket. And went down to ease himself while I was still in the car waiting. I could recall my gadgets – laptop, camera, and so on were in the back seat of the car. Someone, who initially sat at the back seat, had wound down the window but didn’t remember to wind it back up when getting down and we didn’t notice that the window was still down. The car key was with my friend at the time, so when I got down to get something at the supermarket I locked the door. Before we left the car, we noticed this guy that was just standing aimlessly on the road ahead of us. I wasn’t suspicious of anything because he was by himself.
On getting back from the supermarket, I opened the door and dropped what I have purchased. It was then I noticed that my laptop was gone and the other gadgets were still at the back of the car. Thinking of how we could recover the stolen laptop, my friend got on a call to the police and so I decided to fly my drone to even see if the thief has gone far. As the drone went higher, the laptop thief is seen carrying the laptop, walking through the streets, unaware that there was a drone overhead, watching him.
The drone followed him for minutes until he got to his location and the drone lost service. Kelz’s video got the attention of the authorities and he said they were shocked by the fact that he used technology to carry out a “search and rescue” operation.
