Map Of Nigeria To Be made By Partners Of OSGOF
Its been revealed that The Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) in Nigeria has planned to produce a large-scale base map of the entire country in partnership with Woolpert, a multinational company, and its Nigerian partner company, Lordsfield Ltd. As said by Abu Michael, the Surveyor-General of the Federation (GoF), Surv. Abudulganiyu Adebomehin and some management members meeting with representatives of WOOLPERT and Lordsfield at the Survey House in Abuja to have a meeting on the project moving forward, as agreed by OSGoF’s head, Press and Public Relations. The new map would provide the federal government with a critical tool for effective decision-making in proffering solutions to the challenges of various operations, planning, designs, and implementation of physical infrastructures and other developmental projects, according to his statement. He also stated that “The project is for the mapping of every area of the country, upgrading of facilities, and training of professionals for the Nigerian government”.
Although, the project is capital-intensive but important because, no country in the world can resolve its challenges and develop without being properly mapped, and this would remain an issue on the front burner until Nigeria is well mapped, Surv. Adebomehin stated The large-scale map, will show every area, the number of houses and other infrastructures, power, and transmission lines for government to see even at a glance for decision making and ease in approving projects and operations. The GoF thanked the companies for their corporation and for showing commitment to helping the country achieve this and pledged the cooperation of his office on all agreements as deemed fit by the Nigerian government. The importance of digital applications in every operation was stressed by the Managing Director of LordsField, Oluropo Olajugba, and WOOLPERT’s representatives, the Program Director l, Cecilia Hattingh, and the Sales Director, Jannie Engelke, in all their separate statements, as it cannot be overemphasized. Olajugba disclosed that the company WOOLPERT has been in existence for over 108 years in America and is currently partnering with the Ordnance Survey, the national mapping agency in Britain. The benefit of the country having “A Total Solution” base map includes, amongst others, effective health and disease control management; proper management of education; basis for robust socioeconomic advancement and e-commerce; mining and mineral exploration efficiency, wealth, and job creation, amongst others. This was stated in the power-point presentation made by the Head of the Department of Photogrammetry and Remote-Sensing of OSGoF, Surv. Afeez Azeez.
