LIDAR (Light Detection Ranging) Analyst is responsible for the analysis of remotely sensed data. LIDAR Analyst is one the job field under GIS. There are certain skills that a Lidar analyst must have in order to accomplish their responsibilities and the most important one is Data processing.
In Nigeria, most companies merged the duties of a Lidar Analyst and GIS Technician together, they are mostly regarded to as GIS Technicians and this due to some similarities duties they both perform and its irrelevance (Lidar Analyst) in Nigeria (it has about 9% relevance in other countries mostly in the U.S). One similarity between LIDAR analyst and GIS technician share is that they both read and interpret maps, and understand land data.
LIDAR ANALYST performs the following using the most relevant Skill ‘Data Processing’ in the workspace of GIS:
- Refined the data processing and documentation procedures across the multiple software applications necessary to process LIDAR and ortho-rectified aerial photography.
- Developed a time-saving GIS-based procedure that mitigated a software-based DGM data processing limitation allowing for contractual schedule adherence.
- Developed/maintained programs to automate map production and large volume data processing.
- Designed/developed data processing automation to increase map production efficiency.
- Utilized ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online to analyze and digitize CAD drawings for clients and assisted with data processing.
- Integrated external information along with custom data into a company GIS system for planning, project development and resource analysis.
