Drone Coastguard

A drone is designed to take real-time surveillance was used to carry out safety patrols in the UK coastguard search rescue. In order to facilitate the regular and routine use of drones, by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to discharge its time-critical, reactive search and rescue and also to counter pollution international obligations. Maritime minister Kelly Tolhurst said: “We will stop at nothing to keep people safe on our shores and in our seas, exploring new and innovative ways to further bring search and rescue into the 21st century.

The objective of the project is to:

  • Make mobile public perception of drones from negative to positive by showing their importance in the life-saving application.
  • Establish more ways to improve its efficiency and effectiveness, whilst reducing risk to our personnel.
  • Enable safe integration of drones into UK airspace.

The Project addresses the following challenges:

  •  Identify the Regulatory Authorities requirements for approving BVLOS flight in unsegregated airspace.
  •  Get the approval from CAA for the demonstration.
  •  Gives better insights on how a drone could contribute to current SAR and CP capability.
